What Counts as a Small Project
So we're on the same page before work begins
Intro:
Not every request needs a full project scope -- and not every request fits into a quick turnaround either. This page defines what I consider a "small project," so there's no guesswork on either side. If your request falls within these categories, it typically moves faster, costs less, and requires minimal back-and-forth. If it doesn't, I'll let you know, and we'll scope it properly.
1. Minor Content Updates
Refreshing or swapping out existing content on pages that are already built and live. This includes updating business hours, contact details, or service descriptions; replacing images or banners; adding a blog post, event listing, or product to an existing collection; and making copy edits to a small number of pages without changing the layout or structure.
2. Design Adjustments
Visual tweaks that don't require rebuilding a page. This includes adjusting colors, fonts, spacing, or alignment; repositioning content blocks like testimonials or CTAs; and refining button styles or hover effects. The page structure stays intact -- I'm just tuning what's already there.
3. Adding or Updating Simple Pages
Building a new page based on an existing template, or updating sections within a current page. This includes pages like FAQs, a basic Contact page, or a simple About section -- cloned from an existing layout with adjusted content. If the page requires a custom design or a layout that doesn't exist on your site yet, that moves into full project territory.
4. Functional Enhancements
Small upgrades that improve how your site works without requiring complex integrations. This includes adding a contact form, newsletter sign-up, or CTA button; installing or configuring basic tools like SEO plugins or analytics; and setting up simple pop-ups or announcement banners.
5. Maintenance Tasks
Routine upkeep to keep your site running cleanly. This includes fixing broken links, correcting 404 errors, updating redirects, and small performance tasks like image compression or code cleanup.
6. SEO and Performance Tweaks
Targeted adjustments to improve how your site shows up and loads. This includes updating meta tags, title tags, and alt text; adding schema markup; and implementing small performance improvements like lazy loading or browser caching.
7. Small Graphic Design Work
Creating or updating individual visual elements -- not a full brand refresh. This includes banners, buttons, icons, or infographics; visual callouts for promotions or announcements; and refinements to existing graphics for consistency or clarity.
8. E-commerce Adjustments
Minor updates to an existing store setup. This includes adding or updating a small number of product listings; adjusting shipping options or payment settings; refining category layouts or product filters; and configuring discounts or promotional codes.
9. Strategic Consultation
A focused session where I review what you have and give you a clear direction. This includes UX feedback, content organization recommendations, and tool or plugin suggestions - without implementation included.
What falls outside the small project scope
If a request involves any of the following, it's scoped as a full project:
-
Redesigning a page from scratch or building a layout that doesn't exist on your site
-
Adding new functionality that requires custom Velo code or third-party integrations
-
Restructuring site navigation or information architecture
-
Rebranding or creating new brand assets
-
Building a new section of the site (multiple pages, a blog, a store)
-
Anything that requires a discovery call to define before work can begin
Not sure which side your request falls on? Reach out, and I'll tell you straight.
